Good Morning Beautiful is a daily message for empowered women to take control of their days, and live their lives with intention. It’s a morning message packed with advice, tools and tips that get you closer to your goals, practicing self-love and creating the habits of the most successful girlbosses around.
This week we have this spiritual girlboss Shaleena, founder of WIIDLO, taking over Good Morning Beautiful and sharing her best tips on meditation and getting in touch with yourself in the present moment.
We got the opportunity to hear more about this amazing empire Shaleena has built!
What’s Your Name and the name of your business?
The name of my business is WIIDLO which stands for ‘what if I don’t like oysters.’ A pun on the saying ‘the world is my oyster’ if everyone else’s world looks like an oyster I know I want something different! You can check out my website at: www.wiidlo.com
Hey Shaleena, So great to have you join the community! Can you tell us about how you got started with WIIDLO and your growing business?
If you would have asked me a few years ago “what are your passions in life?” I would never have put down spirituality. My guess is I would have said “nothing” followed by “I have no passions” and “I’m not good at anything.”
That’s the type of shit I used to tell myself and somewhere down the line I started to believe it. I went through that ‘tough stage’ we all talk about after its happened but no one discusses at the time. I got into a good university and I graduated with a 2:1, mainly because I thought it would make me feel like I was good enough or like I had proved myself to everyone. I didn’t realize that in actual fact, I was trying to prove myself to myself.
I had worn my sense of worth and my confidence to the ground. After graduating I was still lost, I still had no idea what path to take. I knew I needed to get a 9-5 job in the city because that’s what everyone around me kept telling me. Once I had secured this what happened next? I was still depressed, I still felt like there was something missing from my life, I was so stressed out and anxious all the time (shock horror). I realize now that I kept trying to find happiness and feel content of how society measured ‘doing well’ or being ‘successful’ not by my own measures. I have lived my whole life truly believing that I had to measure up to someone else’s markers of success and once I realized that everyone’s definition of success was different, I felt content. It took me a long time to find self-love and self worth. Now that I’ve found it, I want to share it with everyone else on their journey.
WIIDLO teaches meditation & mindfulness helping millennials and young people to boost their confidence, deal with stress and all round wellbeing through different practices taught both online and face to face. The idea of WIIDLO began one day when I was thinking about one of my favorite sayings. “The world is your oyster” It suddenly dawned on me that “what if I didn’t like oysters? What if I wanted my world to be something more than an oyster?” Everyone else may want their world to be an oyster, I realized however that I wanted something different. WIIDLO is a hub of Spirituality for Millennials who are struggling to find out what they really want from life. If you’re in a constant battle of trying to figure your shit out whilst feeling completely lost about what your purpose is, I get it. I’ve been there. Meditation and spirituality was the thing that made me realize that I’d been searching for answers in all the wrong places.
Do you feel lost or confused? Do you feel like you do things in life because “you have to” or “there is no other way?” Join me on my journey where I teach you how to live a spiritual lifestyle in the twenty first century. Let me help you manifest the life you’ve been dreaming of.
What are your morning rituals?
1. As soon as I open my eyes I train my brain to think of 3 things I am grateful for. Some days I grasp at my bed and my family others its the purpose driven life I have been given, but everyday my first conscious thought is gratitude.
2. Then I empty my bladder, shower and brush my teeth (some people suggest meditating before showering but I like to feel fresh for my meditation)
3. I begin meditation by focusing on my breathing and getting into a steady rhythm. Pranayama breathing helps to rejuvenate your cells and get new oxygen into them.
4. I ask myself an array of thought provoking Qs like who am I? What do I want from life? How can I best serve others?
5. I begin primordial sound meditation or put on a guided meditation 6.I do some type of exercise for 5-10 minutes to get my blood pumping. Sprints, yoga, sun salutations, star jumps, dancing in front of my mirror (genuinely!) anything I choose at that time! Make sure whatever you choose to do you are SMILING, LAUGHING and ENJOYING. It has to be something you enjoy doing to double the good endorphins.
7. I have a shot of wheatgrass 8.I have a spoon full of melted ghee (follow this up with lemon if its the first time you’re doing it the taste is a bit strange and tends to linger)
9. I have at least one cup of hot water with fresh lemon (generally whilst I make my breakfast)
10. Let the day begin
How does starting your day the right way impact your whole day, week, and complete lifestyle?
Starting off your day right is imperative to leading a successful and happy life. These small changes in your life will cause a ripple effect allowing you to manifest the life you have always dreamed of.
What is your MISSION STATEMENT? How are you going to change the world/other people’s lives and make a positive impact?
My mission in life is to put a modern day twist on meditation. I want to make it COOL again! I’ve seen what the benefits are and if we begin teaching the younger generation how to life a mindful life through meditation and the practices I teach the world will start to become a friendly place to be in. In order to seek love you must teach love.
What are the steps it took you to get to where you are now?
I went through that ‘tough stage’ we all talk about after its happened but no one discusses at the time. I got into a good university and I graduated with a 2:1, mainly because I thought it would make me feel like I was good enough or like I had proved myself to everyone. I didn’t realise that in actual fact, I was trying to prove myself to myself. It took me a long time to find self-love and self worth but that is truly all it took. Once I detached myself from all negative people and situations, created a routine that nourished my health and my spirit, I feel like I let my intuition guide me and it has not guided me astray yet!
What is your YES! What kind of life do you want to live?
My YES type of life is living a life where I wake up every day feeling so grateful and so happy to be alive.
Shaleena, I can’t wait to wake up to your success secrets every morning for the week of July 25th.
