Wondering how to attract coaching clients into your business even if you don’t have a big following yet? It’s a question I hear all the time! The good news is, you don’t have to have a big audience to attract your first coaching clients. Keep reading to find out my best tips for attracting your first coaching clients with the network that you already have!
“How do I attract coaching clients even if I don’t have a lot of followers?”
It’s a question I hear from my YES SUPPLY students all the time.
If you’ve been wondering:
How do I get started as a coach?
How do I start making money in my coaching business?
How do I attract the right coaching clients into my business?
…You’re in the right place!
I know it can be intimidating to look at the coaches and influencers out there with millions of followers and compare yourself to them… but remember, they ALL once started at zero!
So if you’ve been waiting, hesitating, and procrastinating on attracting your first clients, I have an amazing story and a few tips for you on attracting your first coaching clients, with or without a big following!
1. Reach Out to Your Network
Whenever someone asks me how to attract clients with a small social media following, I always think of my client and incredible YES SUPPLY METHOD student, Amy.
Amy attended my YES SUPPLY training in January 2020, and about a month later, she messaged me saying she was OVER THE MOON because in less than a month she had attracted 7 clients for her new coaching business.
We hear SO many amazing stories from our clients about how they’ve launched their coaching businesses, attracted clients, started making money, and even made multiple-six-figures!
But this story caught my eye because when I heard from Amy, I checked out her social media, and I saw that she had only 293 followers on Instagram.
Now, if you look at your Instagram, your Facebook, or your LinkedIn — I’m guessing you probably have that many people in your contacts already, right? That’s the beginning of your network.
When I asked Amy how she attracted coaching clients even without a huge following, she told me this:
“You know, I never really thought about the fact that I had a small following, I just focused on nurturing my audience.”
I was SO impressed with her attitude, because so many people allow their small following to be a limitation.
Not Amy.
She made videos, livestreams, and stories — and just put them out there. She detached from the outcome.
She also reached out to past contacts in her network and said “Hey, I’m starting this business… if you know anyone that needs help in this area, let me know!”
She focused on who she already had around her… instead of waiting until she had more followers to start attracting clients.
And this reminded me a lot of what I did in the beginning with YES SUPPLY, too.
2. Shift Your Focus to Who You CAN Serve
When I was first starting out, I saw that there were coaches out there who had hundreds of thousands of followers… and I didn’t.
But rather than focusing on lack, I decided to focus on what I did have.
What did I have?
The people who were listening to me… people who I believed I needed to hear my message.
I also focused on what I had within me.
I knew I had a powerful drive to change my life.
I knew I wanted to help people, and I was energized by my message, which was “Only take yes for an answer.”
I believe that even if you’ve been through hard times, abuse, or social ruin… your past does not have to determine your future.
At any given moment, all we have is right now… and if you use it to your fullest advantage, you can decide who you want to be.
You can match the energy of what you want to become, and that will change your future.
When you give love and care to the people you already know, you’ll see that they’ll be the first buyers of your coaching, courses, and products.
3. Be So Good They Can’t Ignore You
Have you ever heard this Steve Martin quote?
“Be so good they can’t ignore you.”
When I was first building YES SUPPLY, this became my mantra.
I told myself:
I’m going to treat the people who already know me amazingly.
I’m going to write the best articles and make the best videos.
I’m going to put out work I love and that I’m truly proud of.
The more I dedicated my life to my purpose, the more people started reaching out to me, wanting to work with me, and signing up for services and products.
YES SUPPLY started out making zero dollars… in fact, I remember being afraid to spend $60 to buy a web domain… and now it’s a multi-million dollar business that only keeps growing!
Because I focused first and foremost on abundance, being of service, loving my audience, and helping people to the greatest of my ability, regardless of the external results… in time, I ended up getting results beyond my wildest dreams.
4. Customer Retention Is Everything
What’s so interesting to me about Amy’s story is that we both come from the same background — retail.
Yes, that’s right — long before Yes Supply, I was working in retail, folding sweaters, and wondering if this was all life had in store for me — but I now see that there were important lessons I learned about customer service.
One of the things that Amy and I both learned in retail is this:
Customer retention is essential.
Yes, attracting new clients into your business is important…
But it’s even more important to treat the people who are already there as if they’re the most special and amazing people in the world.
Why?
Because when you do, they’re going to continue to invest in your business.
They might start out buying a $5 offer from you… then a $200 offer… then a $3,000 program!
This is what I’ve seen with YES SUPPLY — back when I just had a membership site, so many people joined for only $7 per month.
But those same people became the ones who bought my group programs, and then eventually became certified coaches through the YES SUPPLY Method!
5. Be in the Energy of “It’s Already Done”
Remember that we live in a Universe that is made up of energy.
Every idea, every thought, everything you create starts out as energy.
This is why it’s so important to BE IN the energy of your outcome already achieved… and continue stepping forward and taking action to bring it into reality.
So when it comes to attracting coaching clients, don’t obsess about how many followers you have or don’t have.
Instead, focus on getting into the energy of, “I’m a leader, I’m an expert, I know what I’m talking about, I’ve experienced so much and I’m passionate about helping others and holding space for them!”
I’m willing to bet that you already know someone who wants to be your first client.
And that person knows someone who will become your next client… and so on, and so on.
So just imagine what would happen if you started showing up as the coach and leader that you dream of being… you’d be giving that person the opportunity to work with you and change both of your lives!
So let me ask you this:
What’s a problem you want to solve?
What do you wish you could help people with?
And who do you already know that could be your first client?
Can you think of one or two people you could help right now?
Start creating inspiring content that supports and empowers this person!
Don’t forget to practice gratitude for all the followers and clients you have now… as well as all the future followers and clients that are on their way to finding you.
Know that you already have everything you need to be successful.
